LEIGH Centurions' ambitions to join the game's elite in Super League has taken another step closer.
The Minimum Standards Committee checked out the current facilities at Hilton Park last Friday and this week will make their findings known to Leigh officials.
"The report will tell us exactly what we have to do to bring the ground up to scratch," says Centurions' chairman Mike Nolan.
Meeting
There will follow a meeting with Steve Wagner, a Featherstone director and member of the Minimum Standards Committee, who will set out the ways Leigh can apply for founding for whatever remedial work needs to be done.
"We should soon be in a position where we know what, and how much, the work will cost. We have to be in a position to show that the work can be done by June 30 so our application can continue.
"Once we get through that stage, there should be nothing to stop us moving up - provided we win the NFP Grand Final of course.
The chairman has sent a 'thank you' message to the players and fans for the efforts during the Challenge Cup run.
"The players have nothing to be ashamed of," he says. "They've really done us proud. And the fans have been magnificent, especially last Sunday at Warrington. They're a credit to the club."
In recognition of the players' efforts, the Board decided to give normal winning pay for their loss at Warrington. "They deserved better than normal losing money, " added Mr Nolan.
