COLLEAGUES turned out yesterday to mark the retirement of a Darwen postman after many years of service.
Brian Atkins did his rounds for the last time on Wednesday and for the first time in 12 years he is looking forward to having a lie-in.
Friends who work at Darwen Sorting Office joined customers in wishing Brian all the best and giving him presents.
Brian, 65, joined the Royal Mail in 1989 after running what is now known as Sidco Newsagents on Blackburn Road.
He was given the round in the St John's Avenue and St Aidan's Avenue area in 1993, a round he has done up until yesterday.
Brian said: "Everyone has been great, customers on my round have been giving me cards and presents.
"I will remain in touch with everyone here."
