A PRESTON bike rider has raised loads of money for charity after using pedal power to ride across Egypt.
Gordon Jackson, of Almond Close, Penwortham, has raised £2,800 for Mencap, the charity that helps people with disabilities.
Charity champ Gordon joined The Nile Bike Ride event after spotting an article in The Citizen calling for fundraisers to take part in the event.
The tough five-day challenge took the Sharoe Green Hospital ward manager to the spectacular Valley of the Kings from Luxor.
He cycled past the famous pyramids and saw the beautiful Sphinx before travelling through the desert with his 73-strong charity cycle group.
Gordon, who is married to Honor, said his wife was over-the-moon at his amazing charity mission.
He said: "I had a great time and saw plenty of pyramids and tombs of the pharaohs. I've always enjoyed cycling so it was a real treat.
"My wife is very proud of me and I'd probably do it again."
Now the fit father of four is considering to take part in another cycle mission in the future after receiving his medal of achievement from the organisers.
He said: "It would probably be good the next time around because I'd be better prepared.
"But we had great support from the organisers who helped us on our way."
As a team the cycle group have raised £150,000 for the good cause.
