A MAN who suffered serious head injuries in an accident with a car is back on the road to recovery.
Eric Watson, 62, of Leamington Avenue, Burnley, was hit by a vehicle as he crossed Casterton Avenue on Saturday.
He was admitted to Burnley General Hospital, then transferred to the Royal Preston Hospital where his condition is described as poorly but stable.
But yesterday he was able to sit up and talk to his family.
Wife Barbara said: "He is a lot better. On Wednesday he was totally changed from the day before and was sitting up in bed and talking. I felt much better because it has been a big upset and worry to us."
There are concerns about Mr Watson's right eye which is still closed. Mrs Watson said: "I was with Eric when it happened. We were taking our dog Maisy out for a walk and were crossing the road. I had got across to the other side and presumed Eric was following. Then I heard a bump."
Mr Watson is a retired maintenance fitter at Burnley general Hospital. The couple have a son and daughter and three grandchildren.
Mrs Watson added: "It is a worrying time for us all but can I say that the doctors and hospital staff have been marvellous."
The accident shortly after 9pm on Saturday involved a Renault Savanna driven by John Allcock, 48, of Hipswell Highway, Coventry.
