Haydock 15 Blackpool Scorpions 14 IN an error strewn performance in this top of the table clash Haydock took an early lead after a Scorpions knock-on near their own line. They made it 7-0 with a penalty and a drop goal.
The Scorpions kept losing the ball in the tackle, gifting possession to Haydock but Dave Tanner gave them hope when he intercepted a stray pass to score under the posts. Craig Campbell's conversion was controversially disallowed by the referee not the line judges.
Campbell made amends to kick a penalty from 35 metres making it 7-6 at the break.
He put the Scorpions in front with another penalty after Gareth Chadwick had been flattened by a high tackle. The Scorpions grew in confidence playing the better rugby and Julien Irving was held up over the line when he looked about to score.
But disaster struck when a Scorpions move broke down on the half way line and the Haydock centre picked up the loose ball and raced away for a gift try. They increased their lead to 15-8 with another soft try.
Two minutes from time Campbell scorched down the wing for a try and converted from the touchline to bring the Scorpions to within one point but time then ran out.
