A FRUSTRATING week, to be sure, with two defeats despite two strong performances.

But the fact we are disappointed not to have taken six points from the top two clubs in the division only highlights the strides the team are making under Steve McMahon.

There is, without doubt, a new sense of purpose among fans and all connected with the club. And a genuine belief we can win every game.

Even the defensive injury crisis has failed to dampen spirits. Mind you, there won't be many weeks in which we lose two consecutive games and end up a place higher in the table!

Over the last 30 years Blackpool have had one or two false dawns but the trend has continued inexorably downwards.

But when I hear lapsed fans saying they're coming back to games - when I get jostled in the Scratching Shed because there's been a steady increase in numbers coming through the turnstiles - then I really start to wonder - and to dream. This could be the start of something big! But it's important to keep a sense of proportion. Our recent spate of injury and illness has revealed the frailties in our squad. (and, in passing, what's happened to Neil Murphy?)

It's been good to see loan players like Daniel Shittu making their mark - but will this squad, at its present strength, be able to last the pace in the frantic scramble for that automatic promotion spot?

Will having insufficient cover blight our chances in the playoffs? Only time will tell.

What is essential is that everyone plays their part - including the fans. Increased revenue increases the possibilities for strengthening the squad at this vital time.

And so to a home Saturday, with Kidderminster no doubt looking for revenge for their televised drubbing earlier in the season. Here's hoping sickness is put to flight and we are near to full strength.

Let's fill the place with Tangerine and make sure we gain another three points.
