STAN Ternent has shelved his spending plans until the summer.
The Burnley manager has been linked with a number of players -- most recently striker Steve Claridge at tomorrow's opponents Portsmouth -- but Ternent says there will be no new additions until the transfer system is sorted out.
"Steve is a good player and my intention is to have some players in mind but I am also keeping an eye on the transfer situation," admitted the Clarets chief.
"I'm not sure how that is going to pan out so what I will do will be done in the summer months.
"It is pointless going out and paying some money before the transfer system is sorted out.
"So I just need to wait on that and I won't do anything.
"As much as the fans are looking at, and I'm looking at, different things you have to be responsible about it."
Ternent may feel he doesn't need to delve into the transfer market anyway with the addition of loan striker Gareth Taylor and the welcome return of Lee Briscoe.
The left back has been sidelined with a gashed ankle and then a hamstring strain since November but came through a midweek reserve outing and will feature at Fratton Park tomorrow.
"He will be involved. It's a big step in the right direction if I get Brisser and Coxy back, they are two very good players and that helps us along," continued Ternent.
Meanwhile the boss hasn't ruled out a top six finish for the Clarets if they build on their last two home wins.
Despite the fact Burnley haven't won on their travels since October 21, Ternent is confident Burnley can make a charge for the top placings.
"If we get on a run and start winning matches away from home there is no reason why we can't get into the top half a dozen.
"We have 14 games left -- eight away and six at home -- which represents 42 points, so we'll crack on.
"And we have games in hand on a side that are six points in front of us and in a play-off situation so there is all to play for."
Meanwhile, Portsmouth's new boss Graham Rix, whose side lie three points above the drop zone, admits he hasn't done too much homework for his first game in charge.
"I have not thought about Burnley although obviously we will be having a talk about them before the game."
"I have been with the players for a few days now and I am delighted with their attitude.
"But I cannot wave a magic wand, it will take time although I expect 110 per cent from the players tomorrow and if I don't get it I want to know why," added the former Arsenal striker.
