THE Wigan, Leigh and District Society for the Blind has warned people to be on their guard against telephone sales pitches.
The last meeting of the group was told that a member had received a call asking her to buy cleaning materials which had been made by the blind.
But when she told the caller that she did voluntary work for the local society and did not wish to buy anything she received verbal abuse.
Other members reported they too had heard of the calls but had not been spoken to rudely.
Society secretary Gordon Winnard said: "While we are not saying that telephone selling is wrong we would like the public to know that it is in no way connected with Wigan and Leigh Blind Society and we do not benefit in any way from these sales.
'If anyone would like to support our group they should approach us directly on 01942 242891."
