OBJECTORS have failed to stop a developer from building houses on playing fields in Leigh.
The protesters had strongly opposed the scheme by Redwaters Construction to rip up the 90-year-old playing fields and open greanfield land to build 16 homes at Ennerdale Road in Bedford.
A petition of 113 signatures and 23 letters of objection were sent to Wigan town hall.
But planners this week agreed to allow the development, which includes an access road, car park and changing rooms.
Objectors said the development would cause them to lose an important piece of open ground in the middle of houses.
There were also concerns about the safety of roads from extra traffic and noise.
However planners said the proposal kept the majority of playing fields and improved the standard of facilities for the local junior school of Bedford St Thomas and the local football club.
