A WOMAN was in agony for an hour with her hand trapped after a piece of metal pierced a finger at a firm in Hindley Green.
Denise Schofield, 30, had to be taken to hospital with part of the machine still on her hand and the metal bar wedged into her little finger.
The accident happened at 10.30pm on Tuesday night as she worked a metal pressing machine at Volex Electrium on Leigh Road.
Paramedics gave her oxygen while firemen and Volex engineers dismantled the machine and tried to cut the metal to free her hand. But part of the machine could not be removed and she was taken to Wigan Infirmary where the metal was eventually taken out of her finger and her injuries treated.
Work pals chatted to her to keep up her spirits while she was freed from the machine.
A fire brigade spokesman said: "She was a very brave women.
"She was in pain but handled it very well."
Volex managers said the company, which makes electrical components, was undertaking a full investigation into the accident.
