A GROUP of Leigh schoolchildren have been teaching high tech executives all about their company.
Officials from Volex Wiring Systems were put in the picture courtesy of an imaginative group of 10 and 11-year-olds from Bedford St Thomas's Primary. Officials from the Butts Bridge based company visited the Astley Street school as part of Leigh Education Action Zone Technology Tree initiative, which raises the profile of engineering in schools. And seven of the Year Six pupils, who two months ago spent time at Volex, gave a 10 minute powerpoint presentation outlining through computer-generated words and pictures the history of the company. Volex officials Cliff Law, a member of the Leigh Education Action Zone Business Focus Group, and Jan Doorey witnessed the presentation -- which is linked to an exciting pilot scheme run by the EEF (Engineering Employers Federation) to promote an engineering career to primary pupils. Leigh Education Action Zone programme administrator Malcolm Coe said: "This is another example of how local industry is encouraged to contribute to the education of Leigh youngsters." Interested employers should contact Leigh EAZ on 01942 404080.
