AN ATHERTON cyclist has spent the week sitting on cushions -- but then he has cycled 300 miles in the Far East to raise charity cash.
Saddle sore Alan Hilton, 33, has vowed he will take on another challenging ride to raise more cash on top of the £1,800 for the National Children's Home he got this time. But at the moment he said he was just glad to be off his bike.
He said: "I am sick of the sight of it at the moment. I have been sitting on cushions because of my sore bottom. But I am determined to give it another go -- but perhaps not for a while yet."
The kitchen component manufacturer navigated mountainous terrain and scorching temperatures during his 10 day adventure across Laos, which borders Thailand and Cambodia.
He trained every day and had eight injections in the preparation for the marathon trip.
But after landing back in the UK last Tuesday with 40 other cyclists from the trip, Alan said: "It was very, very enjoyable but very difficult, hot and hilly and there was one occasion where I had to get off the bike and into a car.
"I don't think I'll try it again next year, but perhaps the year after I might give it another go."
And he said it was worth every excruciating mile not just to see the amazing countryside but to raise cash for a charity which he and his fiancee Angela Wadsworth feel strongly about.
