POLICE are warning pensioners to be on their guard after a series of sneak-in thefts in Great Harwood.
Police say there have been four similar thefts in the area since February on pensioners living in sheltered accommodation and private houses.
On one occasion the thieves escaped with £250 cash.
Police say they are linking all the offences.
The most recent incident happened on Thursday when two men posing as workmen tried to get into a house on Harwood Lane.
The men, who are described as wearing blue overalls, fled when the owner became suspicious.
Detective Sergeant Alan Bedwell, of Great Harwood CID said: "We want to make people aware that these incidents are happening and for people to make sure doors are secure and to always ask for ID.
"Anyone in any doubt should not hesitate to call the police."
Anyone with information should call Great Harwood CID on 01254 353341.
