BBC boss Greg Dyke was in Blackburn yesterday to officially unveil the country's first high-tech learning zone.
The director general was joined by Home Secretary and Blackburn MP Jack Straw at the Darwen Street offices of Radio Lancashire where the first zone offer computers for people to drop-in and try out at their leisure.
Blackburn and Darwen Council is heavily involved and moved its entire Lifelong Learning team into the new BBC Zone where they help people who are new to the digital age.
At the unveiling Jack Straw said: "I am delighted that Blackburn has been chosen to be at the heart of the BBC's learning operation. It is an exciting venture which provides an ideal opportunity for those of us who want to learn about new technology and to improve our skills."
