A MOMENT of madness from goalkeeper Lee Purvis cost Darwen a place in the semi-finals of the Second Division Trophy at Squires Gate.
The Darwen keeper raced out of his area in the 22nd minute of injury time but Squires Gate's Alec Rawson got to the ball first, took it round the last line of defence and fired in to an empty net from 40 yards.
Purvis had earlier been the hero after saving a penalty on 10 minutes from Steve Longworth after Scott Sugden had been brought down by the keeper.
Darwen's only chance of the first half fell to Denny Khan after a quick free kick was taken by Scott Derbyshire down the left.
Khan cut in onto his right and fired a shot in which was well saved by Gareth Gray.
In the 70th minute David Barnes was sent off, for using foul and abusive language, by the same referee who sent off Matt Atkinson for the same reason against Squires Gate earlier in the season.
Longworth had chances for the home side in the second half and Andy Walsh fired a header into the side netting in the 90th minute but the deadlock could not be broken.
But in the 112th minute Rawson fired in the winner.
