HOW on earth can Councillor Paul Browne state that trade would suffer in Darwen if proposals are brought forward to stop people parking all day on the Market and Foundry Street car parks? (LET, March 2).
Last Friday I tried to park on these car parks but they were full -- not with shoppers, but mainly with people who work in Darwen town centre and park in the prime spots all day.
Other shoppers trying to park in these locations then simply drove away, some, no doubt, to take their trade to other towns.
As usual, Coun Browne and his Lib-Dem colleagues oppose proposals just for opposition's sake without bringing forward any ideas of their own.
Perhaps they ought to visit Darwen town centre more often!
COUNCILLOR WARREN LISHMAN, Powell Street, Darwen.
