A RADCLIFFE man was rescued from his smoke-logged flat after he attempted to extinguish a burning chip pan.
Mr David Brennan was overcome by fumes and collapsed in the kitchen. He was pulled clear by firefighters who gave the 47-year-old oxygen before transferring him to Bury General Hospital.
The drama happened at 1.30am on Wednesday (March 7) when Mr Brennan fell asleep while making some chips for his supper.
The chip pan burst into flames creating thick smoke which woke Mr Brennan. Neighbours contacted the emergency services.
A spokesman for Whitefield Fire Service said: "The occupant managed to pull the chip pan off the heat source but he was overcome by the fumes and collapsed in the kitchen. When we arrived the chip pan was still burning and the hot fat was reaching that critical point where it would literally burst into flames at any moment."
Mr Brennan was released from hospital a few hours later. The fire caused minor damage to a kitchen wall and unit at the flat in Crompton Place, off Church Street.
