I AGREE with most of the letters regarding the town centre. The bus station is a joke. The buses that unload and load at the rear of T J Hughes can very rarely stop at their allocated stop and just pull into the first space available.
The pedestrian area in Ormskirk Street and Bridge Street is never monitored, private cars still use it daily and this could have been cured at the start by not allowing any traffic, including buses and taxis, to use it.
The buses could have been routed to use Baldwin Street and the ring road to go to Liverpool, Sutton, Warrington, etc.
It wouldn't have added three minutes to a journey and I am sure the taxis could have been catered for elsewhere because they only have three spaces outside the Halifax.
I often wonder why a city like Liverpool and towns like Wigan and Widnes can operate a 100 per cent pedestrian zone but we can't.
