MY husband and I had taken a much-needed holiday in Gran Canaria but we made the mistake of phoning a friend at home in St Helens only to be told that Saints had been drawn against arch rivals Wigan in the Rugby League Challenge Cup.
It put us off our paella. "Don't panic", I told my husband, "aren't WE the Super League Champions?
Aren't WE the Rugby League World Club Champions? - the Poms who beat the Aussies the other week (a feat in any sport!)".
Nevertheless, this was Wigan who had spoilt many a dream for us over the years, and we awaited the outcome in trepidation.
We decided not to seek the result until we returned home so as not to spoil our holiday, but as we passed the newspaper stand on the Sunday morning our curiosity got the better of us and we searched through the sports pages looking for the write-up.
Of course we had beaten Wigan. We were thrilled and delighted. Being Saints we have to have faith!!
The boys 'done good'. Well Done! The Sangria hasn't stopped flowing....
