PUPILS have cooked up a pizza business action with a top local bakery.
Manufacturing students from Shevington High School will now see their prize-winning pie go on sale to the public through Waterfield's chain of 33 shops.
The youngsters invented the new veggie pizza-pie creation as part of a joint bakery and school competition -- and will now help to manufacture and promote their dish.
The creators ,15-year-olds Glenn Sharrock, Martyn Turner, David Byrne and Lynsey Baron, also designed marketing literature as part of the project which forms part of their final GNVQ exams.
The pizza-pie aims to promote healthy eating and is packed with broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, sweet corn, tomatoes and herbs, encased in a wholemeal pastry with a generous helping of cheese on top.
Waterfield's chairman, Richard Waterfield, said: "This is another fine example of our desire to build relationships with local schools.
"The Government is very keen to forge closer links between schools and businesses and we like to think we are leading rather than following in this area.
"It is important that children gain an insight into the world of work and that teachers know what industry is looking for."
The school's head of food technology Claire Crow said: "This project has been very valuable to the children. They have been able to come into the bakery and actually see the manufacturing processes which have given them a very valuable insight into the world of work. We are grateful to Waterfields for offering us a unique opportunity."
If the pizza pie is a success the school will receive further recognition from the bakery.
