THE over-60s in Parr are being encouraged to take part in new weekly exercise classes.
Music to movement sessions, which have already taken off in hospitals, nursing homes, sheltered housing and special needs clubs across the country, have now been introduced at Ivy Court sheltered housing, Fingerpost.
The EXTEND programme of gentle exercises aims to improve the health and independence of the over-60s and is also suitable for younger people who have mobility problems. Sessions are adapted to the needs of the individual depending on their levels of mobility.
Neil Davies, of St Helens Council's Health Promotion Unit, and Social Services outreach worker Jacqueline Kilgannon are working together to promote the classes and to encourage the over-60s in Parr to take advantage of the new sessions.
In addition to the Parr scheme, EXTEND has been awarded funding through the Merseyside Health Action Zone to offer free taster sessions to over-60s in other parts of the borough.
New members are welcome to turn up for the hour-long session at Ivy Court sheltered housing, Pitt Street at 10.30am each Wednesday. For more details, contact Neil on 01744 456468.
