REGULARS who drop into their local in the coming week can expect a poem with their pint -- with the best one winning a slap-up meal.
Richard Bromwich, landlord of Ye Old Sparrowhawk, in Wheatley Lane Road, Burnley, is challenging customers to exchange a limerick for a lager to get people in the mood for St Patrick's Day on March 17.
Limericks must have a local theme and will be read out in the pub on the night itself.
Richard said: "They say that on St Patrick's Day everyone has a little Irish in them and I think it will be very entertaining to see what local people come up with.
"All they have to do is bring their limerick with them on the night and we will judge which is best and the wittiest verse will be chalked up on our blackboards."
To make the competition easier all limericks must start with: "There was a landlord from Burnley" so get your thinking caps on.
