LOCAL youngsters got out their wellies, rolled up their sleeves and got digging to help improve their area.
With the backing of Groundwork Rossendale children from Balladen County Primary, in Linden Lea, Rawtenstall, got to work on the nearby Fallbarn Estate to clear up an eyesore site. People living in the Fallbarn and Balladen areas were consulted about the project and it work started at the beginning of the year .
More than 100 sites around the country are being restored as part of the 12-month project. On Thursday staff and pupils from Balladen County Primary started the first phase. Working alongside members of the Hall Carr and Balladen Community Partnership, the driving force behind the project, youngsters got into some serious spade work. Work will continue throughout the year.
