ABOUT 100 local women from all backgrounds and cultures received certificates to mark Burnley celebrations of International Women's Day.
The event in the council chamber at the Town hall was opened by the council's chief executive Dr Gillian Taylor and the certificates were presented by the Mayoress, Mrs Nasreen Malik. The recipients included all kinds of volunteers, disabled women, professional women, asylum seekers and survivors of domestic violence.
The programme included various speakers, singing and poetry in English and Urdu. International Women's Day has been celebrated across the globe since 1910.
