NELSON's goalscoring machine clicked into gear and Padiham became cannon fodder by the end of this local derby.
Paul Sconce opened up the visitors' defence after nine minutes with a ball to Kiko Rodriguez who curled his first time shot just inside the post to put Nelson ahead. Eleven minutes later the Blues double their lead when Carl Howarth's shot proved too hot to handle for Padiham keeper Ian Hartley who allowed the ball to slip from his grasp and roll agonisingly over the line.
Carl Howarth rattled the Padiham crossbar with a shot on 39 minutes, but Lee Chambers struck back for the visitors when he fired home Steve Yeoman's cross just before half time.
Chambers struck the woodwork with a rising shot as Padiham began the second half on the attack but Kiko Rodriguez headed Nelson's third goal after 56 minutes and just three minutes later Mark Robinson blasted in the fourth after one of his lightning raids down the right wing.
Substitute Jonathan Irvine scored with his first touch of the ball when he beat Ian Hartley with a shot just inside the post for Nelson's fifth goal on 63 minutes and two minutes later Irvine made it 6-1 when Robinson's pinpoint cross gave him the freedom of the penalty area. Surprisingly there were no more goals for the crowd of 250 to enjoy on a memorable afternoon at Victoria Park, but on this showing John Bailey's Blues look unstoppable.
