A FORMER Darrener has landed a job with one of Britain's biggest pharmaceutical companies.
Claire Sumner, 26, is working as a senior scientist for Medisense at Abingdon, Oxfordshire after graduating from the University of Sheffield, with a Phd in chemistry.
A former pupil at St Peter's Primary School and Darwen Moorland High School, Claire, whose mum Christine, lives in Chapman Road, Darwen, went on to get a a BSc at Sheffield University, and an MSc in chemistry at Manchester University before returning to Sheffield for a Phd in chemistry.
Claire will pick up her doctorate at a ceremony in July.
Christine said: "I am very proud of her. I'm thrilled to bits, she's worked and worked and worked and got what she wanted. She has always loved chemistry."
