The decision has been made, by the members of Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority, to extend the age, made by System 1 Travel network, for their Young Persons weekly bus saver ticket. The ticket will now include 21 year olds, as the previous ticket was only available for 16 to 20 year olds.
The decision means that 21 year olds can now enjoy seven days unlimited travel on buses in Greater Manchester, for less than ten pounds. This will include all buses which are part of the System 1 Travel Network.
Bob Hind, the chairman of Greater Manchester Travelcards Limited said, "The bus operators of Greater Manchester are delighted to be able to extend this saver ticket to 21 year olds. Young people between the ages of 16 and 21 can use the single ticket to obtain unlimited travel in Greater Manchester on the vast majority of the country's bus services for seven consecutive days for just £9.45."
Chair of the Authority, Councillor Roger Jones, added: "The Authority is constantly seeking to encourage people to use the public transport network and so we welcome initiatives such as this which make travel by bus more financially accessible for young people."
The Young persons Travelcard must be used along with a Young Persons Travel Club Membership cards, which is free and can be obtained from a GMPTE Travelshop. Anybody who wants a membership card must take a passport size photo of themselves, together with proof of their age (e.g. birth certificate, passport) along to a GMPTE Travelshop. The young persons Travelcards can be bought from either GMPTE Travelshops or Post Offices throughout Greater Manchester.
