THE Warden of The Diocese of Blackburn's 250 readers has retired from his post.
As the readers attended their licensing service, which is held every three years, at the Cathedral in Blackburn, they bid a fond farewell to the Rev David Ashworth, who took up the post in 1997.
The vicar of St Leonard's, Balderstone, has decided to retire from the Reader's post.
Six new readers were licensed for the first time at the service.
However, a church spokesman said attendance to the event was hit by the foot and mouth crisis, which has restricted movement in farming communities.
