REGARDING the 85 per cent increase in allotment rents in Blackburn and Darwen, the super councillors who, no doubt, decided this should not be surprised at the reaction from the tenants.
Maybe this does bring the rents in line with those charged by other councils, but why has it taken until now to realise ours were lower?
What does the council do for these sites? Very little from what I can see.
The Witton site has not got a decent fence around it, but over the last few years the fire service has had to deal with several fires started in sheds and greenhouses.
A council spokesman said each site had running water, but failed to say that water rates have to be paid as well as the rent.
No doubt a number of tenants will vacate their allotments.
W ASPDEN (Mr), Witton Park Allotments, Griffin Street, Blackburn.
