THE cost of parking in Bury is going up slightly from next month.
Bury Metro has carried out an annual review of its charges and decided to increase charges which the council claims are minor.
Short term parkers will feel little impact as on-street charges for 30 minutes or less will stay the same. But those staying for up to one or two hours will face a 10p across-the-board rise.
On public car parks there will be 5p an hour rises for up to three hours, with an extra 10p charge for stays of longer than three hours, except at Castle Street, Parson Lane, Chapel Street and School Brow, where prices remain the same.
Cllr Steve Perkins, Highways and Transportation Committee chairman, said: "When car parking charges were introduced in Bury there were claims that it would drive shoppers away. To the contrary, Bury now enjoys higher numbers of shoppers than ever. We do not feel the changes will impact too harshly on motorists. "
