CHURCH have signed up South African A team player James Bryant as their new professional for next season.
Bryant has been called in at short notice following the late withdrawal of South African all-rounder Justin Kemp who has international commitments.
Bryant plays for Eastern Province, and bats right hand at number three for his state.
Last season, the 25-year-old was the top run scorer in South African first class cricket, and is now, half way through the season, averaging 50 in one day matches.
Bryant also toured the West Indies with the A team in the autumn.
"He is also no stranger to England," said Church Chairman Jack Holden. "His full name is James Douglas Campbell Bryant as he has Scottish parentage and has also played for West of Scotland.
"He has also toured Ireland and Scotland with the South African Academy so he is used to the weather!"
Bryant does also bowl at club level.
