THE racing world may have been pulled up short because of the foot and mouth outbreak but that did not stop members of Burnley Lions Club going to the races to raise money for charity.
About 65 turned up for an "early spring meeting" race night at the Sparrow Hawk Hotel, Church Street, Burnley.
The real winners were the charities with over £400 being raised to be divided between Marie Curie Nurses and and other Lions charities.
The event included a pie and peas supper, auctions and raffles.
