LEIGH RU continued their recent run of good form with a 15-10 victory over St Edward's Old Boys.

The game started slowly in heavy conditions and the first scoring chance for either side came only after 30 minutes when C Lee was narrowly wide with a penalty chance. From the restart, Brown produced an opening by chipping through a tight defence for Fletcher to win the race to touch down.

St Edward's responded with a determined attack from which they reduced the deficit by a penalty, but C Lee restored the margin with a fine penalty kick on the stroke of half time.

In the second half Leigh concentrated on keeping the ball tight with forward drives in the heavy going, but were shocked when carelessness presented St Edwards with a gift try which was converted to give them a 10-8 lead.

Leigh substituted Wood for Aspinall and Wright for Bridge but were unable to make much impression on a resolute defence.

In a late flourish however, a fine move down the right wing saw the ball pass through several pairs of hands for the full back Lester to link up and finish off under the posts for C Lee to convert. Leigh then had to weather the final few minutes of pressure from the visitors for a nailbiting finish.
