LEIGH's Spinning Jenny is set to reopen, creating 15 new jobs.
Giant brewers Bass have reached a compromise with heritage watchdogs who feared an important part of the Leigh's industrial history would disappear with a name change.
The result is the Spinning Jenny has been Goosed, but only slightly! The town centre landmark is now being renamed The Goose at the Spinning Jenny.
Earlier this year civic pride was challenged when locals got wind of name change plans which would have left out reference to "Spinning Jenny" (the name of the pub which was built on the site of textile machinery inventor Thomas Highs' home).
The King Street pub has undergone a £412,000 facelift with the finishing touches being put to the revamp in readiness for the grand reopening of March 25. New manager Stacey Lowe explained: "We pride ourselves on offering traditional pub values at sensible prices -- all of the time.
"It will provide a warm and comfortable place to meet, drink and eat without the distractions of loud music, karaoke, dart boards or pool tables."
