LEIGH Centurions could be on the verge of a double transfer swoop.
Head coach Paul Terzis has two Super League targets in his sights and preliminary talks have already taken place.
But until the deals are completed, Terzis will not be releasing any details except to say one is a back row forward and the other a utility player who can play in the threequarters or the pack. One would be a permanent deal, the other a loan agreement until the end of the season.
Despite speculation last weekend that Leigh were about to make a move for St Helens centre Dwyane West, Terzis says the promising 22-year-old son of Graeme West is not his immediate target.
"Rumours that we've already done a deal with Saints to take Dwyane on loan are well wide of the mark. It's pure speculation," says Terzis. "Of course I would love to have a player of Dwayne's ability in my squad but I understand he's out injured at the moment anyway."
Terzis says he is always on the lookout for quality recruits, but only if they compliment what he's already put in place at Hilton Park and only if he feels they would fit in with the squad.
"We're a happy family here and anyone coming from outside has got to fit in with that. We look at players' personalities as well as their playing abilities," he says.
"The players in the current squad know that I'm always looking to improve things and I would expect to have somewhere between two and four new faces at Hilton Park before the end of the season.
"Increasing competition for places only makes my boys better players. I firmly believe the current squad can win the comp, but if we cover all options then we improve the odds.
"It's a sign of our success that my telephone never stops ringing from players and agents who want to come to Leigh. Only this week I've been offered a couple from Doncaster - Brad Hepi included - but that doesn't interest me at this stage."
But one player Terzis has taken on this week is former Leigh Academy star Chris Dootson. The youngster originally joined Leigh in 1998 but after starring in the Academy side, moved on to St Helens.
"He's asked to come back to us," reveals Terzis. "We're happy to take him, although initially it's only until the end of the season.
"He can play stand-off, centre or full-back and is another local youngsters coming home. It's come at the right time with Neil Donlan needing surgery on a hernia and Damon Fishwick returning to play amateur."
