A YOUTH disco at Haslingden Public Hall has proved so popular it could be extended. Since January 12 the disco has been held at there, in conjunction with the police, youth and community service and JJ Entertainments.
The Friday night disco for 11 to 16-year-olds has attracted an average weekly attendance of 360 and was arranged to address the issues raised by young people of a lack of entertainment and activities.
The Haslingden tourism assistant, staff at the public hall and JJ Entertainment are in regular contact with the police to renew events.
Activities have also been arranged at Haslingden Pool and pre-teen discos have also been held.
Now the plan is to extend the discos to the Astoria in Rawtenstall and Bacup Leisure Hall.
A report to Tuesday's leisure and economic committee says, to date, the total income to the council for the event has been £6,473. Total expenditure on staffing and cleaning is approximately £230 per event and the entertainment has so far cost £2,468.
It is intended that a parents' evening will be held in the near future to give them a chance to discuss the event with the partner organisations.
