A TRAINEE hairdresser who "consistently" offended was sent to jail -- and was told by a district judge she had only herself to blame.

Mother-of-two Angela Wallace, 27, who also struck while subject to a deferred sentence, stole property belonging to a group of majorettes while they were using leisure centre changing rooms.

Judge Jonathan Finestein said what she had done was mean and must have left the victims extremely upset.

Wallace, of Pennine Road, Bacup, admitted two counts of deception, attempted deception and handling stolen goods, four counts of theft. She also admitted two counts of of failing to surrender. She was jailed for a total of nine months and the judge said she had an "appalling," record.

The court heard the defendant took a £70 jacket and contents of a purse from the majorettes troupe.

Janet Sime, defending, said Wallace had got involved with drugs after her mother died.

She had been attending college, gained qualifications in hairdressing and had seven months left to do before she was fully qualified.

The defendant had a job available for her when she had finished training at Headmasters in Waterfoot.

Wallace had been on a methadone reduction programme and she had wanted to prove that she could turn her life around.
