HISTORY means a lot to many people, but is of little interest to others like the misplaced section of our community which has turned on a heritage park created as a reminder of industrial greatness.
Let us hope descendants of the skilled workforce which made the town of Atherton a major force in the world of fasteners aren't responsible for ruining a section of the town's once happy "valley".
Chowbent sparrow bill nails (just like the ones which studded Astley's Dam House door before someone with a dodgy interest in antiques whisked it away in another act of desecration), nuts and bolts, cotton and coal were important elements in the evolution of the "town of the little brooks".
Local worthies recognised that engineering tradition should be respected and a secluded haven complete with giant nuts and bolts was created where locals could amble and ponder about the past.
Whoever would want to despoil that heritage by dumping rubbish in the park must have a screw loose.
