TV's 'orrid quiz host Anne Robinson stirred up a hornets' nest with her comments about the Welsh. After her appearance on Room 101, the show in which celebrities ditch their irritations, there were over 60 complaints after she condemned the nation to the depths of beyond. How silly.
I must say the complainants mustn't have much sense of humour. I don't think she did it nastily. In fact, after her austere persona on The Weakest Link and Watchdog, the programme showed quite a likeable side -- she did say a lot of it resulted from envy of their ability to sing and play rugby. In fact I have to agree with her decision from personal experience. The Welsh can be extremely rude to visitors to their lovely country.
I have never forgotten taking a Tunisian and Frenchman, both on exchange teaching courses in Leigh, on a trip to North Wales and they were treated disgustingly. People were so publicly offensive to my guests that we left the pub we were in in disgust.
Of course you can't tar everyone with the same brush, but the nation, as a result, is not one of my favourites either.
