LEIGH driver Jacqueline Phoenix is concerned about the poor standard of roads in the town.
I'm glad someone else has noticed, I've thought exactly the same thing recently.
Jacqueline, of Sandersons Croft, asks what the council is going to do about pot holes in Holden Road, Manchester Road, Lord Street, Platt Street, Irvine Street and her own road.
"Will it take a serious accident before something is done and what are we paying our taxes for?" she asks.
Well I got onto the council to find out, and they tell me there are over 600 miles of roads in the borough which are inspected on a regular basis and repaired when necessary.
In between inspection the council relies on the goodwill of local people in bringing problem areas to their attention.
In this case they are grateful to a Bold Street resident who rang regarding some of the holes Jacqueline complains about. The roads will now be inspected and arrangements made for their repair.
Residents with any concerns should contact the council's engineers' department on 01942 404347 or 01942 323027 outside office hours.
And further information is available on the website at www.wiganmbc.gov.uk.
It really is no wonder the roads are crumbling with the excessive amount of traffic using them.
But you have to ask which is the better of two evils -- holes or flipping roadworks?
