A FIRM date is still to be found for the on-off-on Trans-Pennine Trophy Final between the Centurions and Keighley Cougars.
Postponed from it's original date of last Wednesday, the game is still scheduled for Cougar Park in May - but just when, nobody is sure.
The finalists were under the impression that the game would be staged on Wednesday, May 16 but now it seems the Rugby Football League favour Sunday, May 20. While that is the weekend of Keighley's bye, Leigh are scheduled to meet Whitehaven at home on that afternoon.
The move to May 20 is favoured by RFL Director of Rugby Greg McCallum who, just before he left for the International Board meeting in Australia, said: "We would rather play the game on a Sunday rather than midweek because we believe we could make it a bigger occasion that day and possibly attract TV coverage."
But Leigh are not entirely happy at the possibility of losing a Sunday home fixture and if they are forced to switch, would ask the League for compensation for loss of potential income.
Whitehaven hold the key to the issue. If they object to moving their Sunday game at Leigh to a midweek date, the Trans-Pennine Final will almost certainly go ahead on Wednesday, May 16.
Leigh and Keighley qualified for the final by winning their respective East and West divisions over the first nine games of the NFP season. The Cougars won the toss to stage the game.
