A LYTHAM school stormed to victory in the Top of the Fylde Quiz last week scoring a record breaking score against a record breaking number of opponents!
St Bede's winning team, formed only three days before the event, was captained by John Hatjouillis specialising in art, history and general knowledge with Paul Crayston and Mark Illingworth, both specialising in sports, music and geography and Martin Hayes whose specialist subject was general knowledge.
The quiz, open to teams of local students up to Year 11, was held at Blackpool and Fylde College's Bispham campus and attended by 25 teams, the most in its six-year history.
Captain John said of their resounding victory, in which they scored 86 points out of a possible 100: "We are really pleased. We didn't think we would win so convincingly." Natural choice for the job of quiz master and host was college lecturer David Hesp, former Sports Brain of Britain, who said of the four Year 11 quiz whizzes: "St Bede's put in an outstanding performance. The questions were challenging, but the standard was extremely high." On hand to present £300 worth of prizes was College Principle Reg Chapman, who travelled to Buckingham Palace just last month with his wife and two daughters to collect his O.B.E from The Queen, in recognition of his outstanding services to education.
WINNERS: John, Paul, Mark and Martin with the trophy
