A WIFE watched in horror as her husband was beaten up by four men in a motiveless street attack.
The 36-year-old victim lost two front teeth and suffered multiple cuts and bruises in the assault which happened at 10.45pm on Saturday in Brownside Road, Pike Hill, Burnley.
PC Gavin Rose described the incident as a vicious and totally unprovoked attack on a man who was returning home with his wife after a night out.
The couple were near the Spar shop when the victim was set upon for no reason, police said.
PC Rose said: "As his wife screamed and tried to stop them, he was viciously attacked and dragged into the middle of the road where he was kicked and punched about the head and body."
He was later taken to hospital and detained until yesterday lunchtime.
Police want to speak to an Asian man driving a red taxi who stopped at the scene to give assistance.
All the attackers were in their early 20s and in smart casual dress. One of them is described as "baby faced", 6ft tall, slim, with fair hair, gelled back. Another of the men is 5ft 9ins, stocky, with short dark hair.
Anyone who can help police inquiries is asked to contact PC 257 Rose on 01282 425001 or tell Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555111.
