FORM GUIDE
MICHOPOULOS : Kept the Clarets in it during the first half with a couple of stunning saves...8
* THOMAS: Stood firm at right-back and his aerial ability came in handy several times when Burnley were under pressure in the first half...8
DAVIS: Had his hands full with Andy Booth but competed well against the Terriers' front man...7
COX: Did a decent job on Efan Ekoku but his trip on the Wednesday striker signalled the end for the Clarets...7
BRISCOE: Given some stick on his return to Hillsborough but showed flashes of what the Owls are missing...6
WELLER: Didn't have the infleunce he's had in recent games bar a short spell after the break when he helped push the home side back...6
BALL: Couldn't get a grip in midfield before making way with a calf strain at the break...5
ARMSTRONG: Gave his usual commitment but the midfield battle went Wednesday's way when it mattered most...5
MULLIN: Gave it a go but couldn't make the same impact as at Watford in mid-week...6
MOORE: Disappointing showing up front when going out wide or up the middle...5
TAYLOR: Didn't make much headway against the Wednesday back four...5
SUBSTITUTES
SMITH: Made a positive start when coming on without being able to find the killer ball...6
LITTLE: Touch wasn't quite there after coming on for the last 35 minutes...5
PAYTON: Didn't get a sniff in the last 20 minutes
OPPOSITE CAMP
PRESSMAN: Made one fine save in the first half and had little else to do...7
WALKER: Never stretched by the Clarets front men...7
QUINN: Didn't contribute greatly to Wednesday's win on the left flank...5
SIBON: Great delivery from set-pieces and a danger on the ball...8
BOOTH: Led the Wednesday attack well with his aeriel strength causing problems in the first half...8
HENDON: Useful going forward from right-back and scored a cracking opener...7
SOLTVEDT: Steady job in the middle of the park...6
WESTWOOD: Helped Wednesday keep it watertight at the back...7
EKOKU: Lively up front without hurting the Clarets too much until he won the penalty...6
PALMER: Influential presence in midfield where he put himself about to in competitive fashion...7
BROMBY: Queitly effective in the left-back role...7
SUBSTITUTES:
LESCOTT: Late run-out with the points already in the bag
TECHINCAL TALK: The 4-3-3 line-up wasn't as effective as at Watford as the front men were too isolated and the midfield at times outnumbered. A switch to 4-4-2 brought dividends after the break and stopped Ian Hendon getting forward but clear-cut chances remained elusive.
SET-PIECE WATCH: Lee Briscoe was his usual accurate self from set-plays but the greater threat came from Wednesday and Gerald Sibon who whipped the ball in with pace and precision from free-kicks and corners.
KEY MOMENT: Burnley had promised a revival after half-time but any hopes of gaining a point were killed off 20 minutes from time when Ian Cox tripped Efan Ekoku and Gerald Sibon settled things from the spot.
TIME FOR ACTION
05 Ian Moore is given an early opening as Gareth Taylor opens up the Wednesday defence but Moore can't exploit the gap
18 A great save from Nik Michopoulos denies Trond Soltvedt from Andy Booth's flick
25 Burnley hit back with a half-chance for John Mullin after Taylor helps on a Lee Briscoe free-kick but Mullin's effort at full stretch goes wide
36 Briscoe causes more problems for his old club with a curling free-kick which brings Pressman into action for the first time with a smart save
39 Wednesday pose a constant threat from set-pieces and only a fine reflex stop by Michopoulos stops one of them leading to a goal for full-back Leigh Bromby
41 The home side break the deadlock when Ian Hendon strides onto a Gerald Sibon through-ball and as the flag stays down he hammers a first-time shot in off the underside of the bar
57 Burnley can't make the most of some decent possession with Taylor's blocked volley the closest they come to a leveller
70 Wednesday wrap up the points when Sibon converts from the spot after Efan Ekoku is tripped by Ian Cox
82 Steve Davis tests Pressman but can't prevent another shut-out, while Carlton Palmer blasts wide at the other end following another Sibon free-kick
