LEYLAND town centre could be all set for CCTV coverage if South Ribble Council's bid for more than £200,000 funding is successful.
Department of Environment Transport and the Regions (DETR) minister Beverley Hughes was in Leyland to help launch the town's CCTV fund with South Ribble MP David Borrow.
The scheme is the brainchild of Inspector Marc Vincent, of Leyland Police, councillor Bill Evans, Brian Pilkington Estate Agents, of Hough Lane and the Community Southern Partnership.
South Ribble councillor Mark Alcock is hoping the £226,000 bid to the government will be accepted. He said: "More than 1,500 people have signed a petition in support."
People can also make a donation toward the cost of CCTV facilities in the town.
If successful, the bid will mean 14 CCTV cameras could be installed by next March in Chapel Brow, Hough Lane and Towngate.
Mr Borrow said: "Having the minister in Leyland will be a great boost for this excellent scheme. It is good to see police, councillors and local businesses working hand-in-hand to provide a safer environment."
