BURY defender Sam Collins is likely to miss tomorrow night's clash at Wrexham after injuring his achilles.

Collins limped off at half time and was replaced by youngster Nicky Hill, who slotted into the back three alongside Chris Swailes and Steve Redmond.

''He's been feeling the injury for the last three or four games and at half time he just couldn't carry on,'' said Bury boss Andy Preece.

''With it being his achilles I doubt he'll be fit for Tuesday but I won't rule him out just yet.''

His replacement, Hill, who is still celebrating being offered a contract by the club, turned in a competent performance in the middle of defence and must now be favourite to make his full debut in North Wales.

But the youngster was quick to praise his defensive partners after the match. ''Playing alongside Redders and Swailes really helps because they've got so much experience,'' he said.

''They talk to me all the time and help me through and it makes it a lot easier.

''Wrexham will be a tough game. I don't know whether I'll be playing. It depends on whether Sam is fit but if I get called up I'll be delighted.''

There is a busy week in prospect for the Shakers. As well as Wrexham, Bury play Pakistan on Wednesday and there's also the small matter of transfer deadline day on Thursday.

Preece will be hoping to tie up another month's loan deal with impressive Crewe striker Colin Cramb. On the outgoing side the manager did not rule out players leaving.

He admitted there had been interest for ''one or two'' players from other clubs but that there was nothing definite.
