ACCRINGTON STANLEY 0 WHITBY TOWN 2 ACCRINGTON STANLEY'S first home game in a month left their supporters disappointed as two second half defensive errors sent the Reds crashing to a UniBond Premier Division defeat.
Stanley created the game's first scoring opportunity on three minutes when Mark Brennan won the ball in midfield, found Mark Ceraolo, who laid the ball off for Gary Williams to fire wide of the goal.
In a half of few scoring chances visitors Whitby came close to scoring on 38 minutes as their top scorer Lee Ludlow chipped the ball over goalkeeper Jamie Speare but narrowly over the crossbar.
Two minutes later from David Logan's corner defender Kevin Graham headed over the Reds' crossbar.
Four minutes into the second half Stanley's best move of the game saw Russell Payne create an opening for Williams, who cut inside Graham and saw his shot well saved by Whitby goalkeeper David Campbell.
The visitors went ahead on 53 minutes when Kenny Cramman crossed the ball from the left to the unmarked Dean MacAuley and his looping header went over Speare into the net.
Soon after manager John Coleman made a double substitution introducing Robbie Williams and Brett Baxter but the Reds gifted Whitby a second goal in the 63rd minute.
Ludlow latched onto a through ball, beating the Reds offside trap and seeing Speare off his line chip the ball over him into the net.
Four minutes later a good ball by Stanley's Simon Carden found Paul Mullin who flicked the ball on to Payne who struck the ball from 18 yards straight at Campbell.
A minute later Robbie Williams went on a superb solo run that took him past three Whitby players, but his shot went harmlessly wide as the Reds could find no way back into the match.
