ANDY Preece's Shakers will travel to North Wales tonight determined to erase a nasty lingering memory - a 4-1 hammering.

That was the scoreline in only the second match of the season when Bury were easily beaten and Preece has been waiting a long time to make amends.

Hopefully tonight will be pay-back time.

"We certainly owe them one," said the Bury boss. "There is no need to get the lads wound up for this match because they remember only too well what happened at our place. We were well beat and we want to put that right."

Meanwhile Preece was awaiting developments ahead of Thursday's transfer deadline. Having secured the signing of Liverpool's Jon Newby, Preece admitted he had received enquiries from other managers about one or two of his own players.

One man still causing much attention is Chris Armstrong. If the latest rumours are to be believed the 18-year-old left back, who has only played a handful of first team games, could be on his way to Liverpool.

However, this was laughed off by Preece and, it seems, quite rightly so. Liverpool have just signed a 19-year-old left back Gregory Vignal from Montpellier for £750,000 and Gerard Houllier has gone on holiday for 10 days - which means he is unlikely to launch a bid before Thursday!

Preece is more interested in winning tonight but he knows it won't be easy.

Sam Collins is almost certainly out after picking up an achilles injury against Notts County. His second half replacement Nicky Hill is set to make a rare start.

That is likely to be the only change in the starting eleven meaning Ady Littlejohn - whose goal grabbed Bury a vital point at the weekend - will again have to be content with a place on the bench.

Meanwhile, opponents Wrexham are in excellent form and still have an outside chance of making the play offs. Though they lost against Reading on Saturday Brian Flynn's team had won their previous four.

Flynn, a former Shakers player himself, said: "Bury are not a bad side and since they bought Jon Newby in from Liverpool they have found that extra spark. It will be a tough game."
