AN appeal fund to raise money for new gates at Atherton Cricket Club has been launched by the club secretary.

Mr John Charlson started the appeal to coincide with his 40th year as secretary and is appealing for donations.

He said: "The club has moved on tremendously since the 1960s, but it still faces an enormous task to continually raise money to maintain standards. In the next few months, the club must replace the main gates at the entrance to the ground, as they are presently unsafe. To coincide with my 40 years as secretary, I thought it would be appropriate to launch an appeal fund to raise money to provide a set of decorative wrought iron gates.

"Consequently, I am approaching individuals and businesses who have been associated with the club over the years, inviting them to make a donation to the appeal fund. I am sure, like me, many people have spent many happy hours at the ground."

If you want to make a donation phone Mr Charlson on 01942 874794.
