INJURY-JINXED Clarets full-back Lee Briscoe looks set for a further spell on the sidelines.

Briscoe has been back in the Burnley line-up for just three games following almost three months out with hamstring and knee problems.

But his comeback has proved short-lived after he picked up a fresh hamstring during his return to former club Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

"You've got to say it must have been fairly serious for him to come off. It's the other hamstring and just pure coincidence and rreally bad luck for him," confirmed assistant boss Sam Ellis.

It's too early to say how long Briscoe, who is an influential part of the Clarets set-up, will be out of action but he appears to have no chance of facing Queens Park Rangers on Saturday in a game that kicks-off at 1pm.

The defender's absence is another blow for Burnley, whose squad could be stretched to the limit for their first home game in a month.

Central defender Ian Cox has jetted out to link up with the Trinidad squad for their World Cup qualifier against Costa Rica on Saturday, although Graham Branch is expected to return to full training this week following a thigh strain and would be a straight swap for Briscoe at left-back.

Paul Cook also missed Saturday's defeat at Hillsborough but should be fit for the weekend.

Meanwhile, Lennie Johnrose and Ronnie Jepson were both booked in to see a specialist today for a progress report on the Achilles tendon surgery they underwent at the start of the month.

It will be the last couple of weeks of the season before wither can contemplate a comeback and Ellis confirmed it was too early to say whether Johnrose would play any further part in the campaign. He said: "He's going steadily with his recovery but I don't think the gaffer wil be looking to rush him. It's something we want to be sure with."

Whether Ternent is able to add to his squad before Thursday's transfer deadline remains to be seen.

Manchester City striker Gareth Taylor remains top of his shopping list with his initial one-month loan ending before the visit of struggling Queens Park Rangers, where he also spent a spell on loan last season.

Ternent wants to sign Taylor at least until the end of the season but is yet to finalise the deal.

Meanwhile, Blackpool have ruled out an audacious swoop for Clarets leading scorer Andy Payton.

The Third Division promotion-chasers had been linked with a move for Payton, who has lost his place in Burnley's starting line-up in recent weeks.

With Seasiders striker John Murphy a target for West Bromwich Albion, Payton had been touted as a potential goalscoring replacement at Bloomfield Road.

However, the Blackpool management have denied an interest in the 32-year-old, who would be in demand higher up the Nationwide League should he become available.

Burnley have just over 2,000 tickets left for the derby clash at Blackburn on Saturday week.

They are now on sale to season ticket-holders without any away-day stubs by post or by handing in an application at the ticket office.

The cost of the tickets, which will be posted out, at £21 for adults, £14 for senior citizens and £11 for juniors includes a £4 coach fare and the club is urging supporters to use the coaches which will all leave for Turf Moor with pick-up points at Colne, Nelson and Padiham.

Media and public relations officer Danny Reuben said: "It worked well for Blackburn when they travelled here and it was felt that after discussions with the police and both football clubs that it was the best way. We want to provide the same service for our fans and I'm sure there won't be any problems on the day."
